These files have smooth, undamaged flutes, they are ground from hardened high speed steel blanks. They are used for filing mild steels and pliable, stringy materials like aluminum, brass, lead, plastics, and magnesium. They are best used in machines with flexible shafts and air tools, at medium speeds. The ball design is for deburring and finishing rounded openings and curvilinear surface profiles. It is used to remove excess material and sharp edges from machined components. Along with shaping bevels and other concave surfaces, Ball Burs can also be used to enlarge holes.
