TUNGSTEN CARBIDE BURS - Performance & Control

Wybur Tools Carbide Burs Cut Faster with Better Control

Our tungsten carbide burs are designed for long-lasting durability and optimum performance. With machining expertise, consistency of our flute geometry, strength of our braze, and commitment to quality our carbide burs guarantee the highest level of satisfaction and safety to the user.
Carbide burs are made of tungsten carbide, three times more robust than high-speed steel and able to provide better performance at higher temperatures. Suitable for demanding applications, carbide burs are used to debur and smooth sharp metal edges. Tungsten carbide burs are tools most used for metalwork, grinding, chamfering, welding, tool making, jewelry making, sculpting, and wood carving.
Carbide Burs are available in a wide variety of cut types and bur shapes, manufactured as a solid piece, or brazed. A brazed carbide bur consists of three separate components: carbide head, tri-foil disc, and steel shank. Meeting the highest quality standards, Wybur Tools brazed carbide burs are individually hammer tested for safety and reliability.

  • Made in the USA
  • Imperial and Metric
  • Improved stock removal, less clogging and chatter
  • Less brittle
  • Runs cooler, decreasing heat build-up at the cutting edge
  • Superior flute geometry for consistent performance
  • Longer-life tool reduces downtime
  • Each braze is individually hammer tested

Performance – Choose the Correct Bur for Your Application

It’s extremely important to select the appropriate bur for your application. Different cut types and bur shapes are designed to be used for different materials. For best performance:

  • Follow the recommended operating speeds for the various applications, materials, cut styles, and bur head diameter.
  • Let the bur do the work, use light pressure, and don’t force the bur into grooves, crevices, or cavities.

Cuts

Double Cut Burs

Alternate Cut / Double Cut

Deburring, finishing, cleaning. Basically a standard cut, with cuts made on the left-hand spiral. Designed to produce a finer finish on soft and hard metals.

Standard Cut Burs

Standard Cut

General purpose, medium stock removal, deburring, milling, cleaning, finishing. Used for steel, cast iron, ferrous materials and non-ferrous materials such as brass, copper, zinc.

Aluma Cut Burs

Aluminum Cut / Alumna Cut

Deburring, milling, cleaning, and machining. Used for aluminum, magnesium, soft steel, and non-ferrous materials such as hard plastic, rubber, and wood.

Chip Breaker Cut Burs

Chipbreaker / Cross Cut

Standard cut with chipbreaker. Deburring, milling, cleaning. Used for tempered, unhardened steel, cast steel, and weld seams.

Bear/Shipyard Cut Burs

WYBUR Tools Bear/Shipyard Cut

Heavy-duty stock removal. These double cut burs are designed to cut more material per hour reducing manufacturers production costs. Engineered for heavy duty and challenging applications such as shipbuilding, automotive, offshore drilling, and foundries, the WYBUR Tool Bear Cut is a perfect choice for use on mild steel, stainless steel, metal alloys, and cast iron.

  • Deep aggressive tool pattern for rapid stock removal and better chip control.
  • Increased tooth strength due to special geometries
  • Longer tool life – improved productivity

    FAQ

    What causes bur teeth chipping?
    1. Forcing the bur into a corner, crevice, or cavity
    2. Operating bur too slowly
    3. Crashing into the workpiece
    4. Collet not tightened properly

Why did the bur head separate from the shaft on a brazed carbide bur?
    1. If the bur becomes too hot the braze may soften or melt causing the bur head to separate from the shaft.
    2. The bur shank may have encountered the workpiece causing friction.
    3. Worn or improperly tightened collets cause friction leading to the bur to operate at speeds beyond the recommended limit.

Why would the bur teeth show wear earlier than anticipated?
    1. The cut type selected was not appropriate for the application and/or material.
    2. Operating the bur too fast
    3. Collet not tightened properly
